How to measure your belt?

To choose the right belt, take its exact dimensions: outer length, width and thickness let you identify the compatible reference.

QUICK ANSWER

	We measure the outer length (that's the one used on our site).
	Also note the width and thickness to determine the profile (A/B/LB/Z/3L/4L/5L…).
	No belt to measure? Follow the path around the outside of the pulleys with a tape measure.

MEASUREMENTS TO TAKE

Outer length

The outer perimeter of the belt.

Width

At the base of the V-trapeze, or the overall width depending on the type.

Thickness

The section height.

WAYS TO MEASURE THE LENGTH

1	Belt intact Wrap a tape measure around its outer length, starting from a point A.
2	Belt cut Lay it out perfectly flat and measure the outer length.
3	Belt lost Follow the full path, staying on the outside of the pulleys.
4	Belt gauge If you have one, use it for a quick reading.

CONVERTING CM → INCHES

1 INCH = 2.54 CM

Convert to inches with the formula: inches = cm ÷ 2.54.

OTHER TYPES OF BELT

Hexagonal (double V)

Drive on both sides over V-pulleys (AA-type profiles).

Toothed (synchronous)

Mesh with toothed pulleys: note the length, the number of teeth and the pitch.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I no longer have the original belt.

Recreate the outer length by following the path around the outside of the pulleys with a tape measure.

What measurement tolerance should I allow?

Measure as precisely as you can (to the mm); a small tolerance is acceptable, but aim for accuracy.

Can I replace a V-belt with a toothed one?

No: the type must match the setup (pulleys). Keep the same profile and the same length.
