Using your brushcutter for edges and hedges

Beyond clearing brush, the brushcutter creates clean edges and, depending on the attachment, levels off certain grasses. Here's how to get a clean, even result.

	Fit the right attachment (line for edges/grass, blade for brambles/light branches).
	Wear PPE: goggles, gloves.
	Set the line length and head angle; work at a steady speed.
	Edges: head nearly horizontal; leveling: head vertical, even movements.

	Clear the area (stones, wire, glass) and warn those nearby.

PREPARATION & SETTINGS

	Check the condition of the cutting head and the line length.
	Adjust the head angle and the working height.
	Work at a steady speed and let the line do the cutting (don't crush it).

HEAD NEARLY HORIZONTAL

Move along the edge keeping a constant height; let the line cut without forcing for a clean, even edge.

LIGHT LEVELING

For grasses / young shoots (not a finishing cut: prefer a hedge trimmer). Vertical head, gentle bottom-to-top movements, small passes, check flatness from a distance.

WHICH LINE OR WHICH BLADE?

Edges / fine grass

Cutting line Ø 1.6 to 2.4 mm.

Thick grass

Line Ø 2.4 to 3.2 mm.

Shrubs / brambles

Cutting blade (hard metal, steel teeth) if the machine allows it.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I cut right up against a wall or a fence?

Yes with the line, but move slowly and tilt to avoid flying debris. Avoid the blade near hard obstacles.

The cut is uneven?

Check the length/condition of the line, keep the speed steady and work in small sections at the same angle.
