Guide : Which PPE should you choose ?

SAFETY GUIDE

Which PPE should you choose?

PPE reduces the risks of cuts, flying debris, falls, dust or noise. This guide helps you choose the PPE suited to your work and your machines.

01

BASIC PRINCIPLES & GOOD PRACTICE
Before any work: machine off, power neutralised (unplug, remove the battery, spark plug cap).
PPE matched to the risk: impact, cut, noise, dust/aerosols, chemicals, slipping.
Comfort = effective protection: favour fit and breathability so you keep the PPE on to the end.
02

PROTECTION BY BODY AREA
Head & face
Helmet (falling branches) + mesh visor/screen (flying debris).
Eyes
Anti-scratch / anti-fog glasses; visor for highly exposed work.
Hearing
Ear defenders (chainsaw, brushcutter, shredder), adjustable headband.
Respiratory tract
Dust mask; suitable cartridges for aerosols.
Hands
Gloves: cut-resistant, non-slip or waterproof depending on the task.
Feet
Safety shoes / boots: toe cap, non-slip sole, ankle support.
Clothing
Abrasion-resistant; aprons, leg guards / gaiters depending on the work.

03

GEARING UP FOR THE JOB
Mower / ride-on
Glasses or visor, gloves, safety shoes, hearing protection.

Glasses + cut-resistant gloves, hearing protection, non-slip shoes.

FIT, COMFORT & CARE
Fit: helmet snug but comfortable, glasses flush, gloves and shoes the right size.
Care: clean after use, air-dry, replace any damaged PPE (scratched screen, slack strap, smooth sole).
Storage: dry, away from sunlight and heat.
05

Eyes: protective glasses in place.
Hearing: ear defenders for noisy machines.
Respiratory: mask if dust / aerosols.
